Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) of Fairbanks, AK is looking to hire a full-time Systems and Network Engineer as part of the Information Technology Division located in Fairbanks, AK. This position earns a competitive starting wage. GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,261 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities.

Our Systems and Network Engineer provide high quality and available network services. Some responsibilities include ensuring the security of computing and network resources, oversee Linux and Windows based system administration and network services. They also provide direct support of GVEA operations and systems design/engineering and assist with database administration.

The Systems and Network Engineer plays an integral role in GVEA's ability to serve the Interior of Alaska in providing reliable electric service at fair and reasonable prices!


  • Four year degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent amount of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a related field. Education may be considered in lieu of experience requirement.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies is preferred. (Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, and Red Hat certifications)
  • Valid Alaska Driver's license required.

Previous work experience in a Cooperative or Electric Utility would be preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration.

This position typically works Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
